Matthew 28:1-8
Mark 16
Luke 24:1-10
John 20:1-9
"He is not here; He has risen just as He said." Matthew 28:5
Christ's death for my sins didn't end there. I have hope because Christ rose from the dead. 1 Corinthians 15 speaks a lot of the resurrection of Christ. In 1 Corinthians 15:12-22, Paul talks about how our hope is futile, we have no hope, if Christ didn't rise from the dead. I die and that's the end. Praise be to God, Christ didn't stay dead! The accounts in Luke and John both mention how Peter and John went into the tomb and saw the linens lying there. The form of Christ's body was still there in the linens but the body was gone. What would it have been like to actually witness the empty tomb?
Christ conquered death! 1 Corinthians 15:54-56 states that the sting of death is sin. Christ conquered both! Christians have only one death to face...physical death. I will lose my old, worn down, sin laden body, and one day it will be exchanged for a new eternal one. Paul in 1 Corinthians 15 uses the analogy of a seed. When you plant a seed, the outer shell has to die for the plant inside to come to life. It's the same for me. My physical body dies, and then I will one day be raised with a spiritual body, which is imperishable. I don't know about you, but I anxiously await that day!
1 Peter 1:3-5 - Because of God's great mercy, we have a living hope through Christ's resurrection.
There are several songs dealing with Christ's resurrection, but one of my favorites is Christ is Risen by Matt Maher. There is a part that goes, "Oh death! Where is your sting? Oh hell! Where is your victory? O Church! Come stand in the light! Our God is not dead! He's alive! He's alive!"
If this doesn't bring joy, nothing will. No matter what I face, I have the hope that one day all my troubles will be gone and I will be in heaven praising and worshiping the One who died and rose again for me. No more pain, no more tears, no more wars and fighting no more death, just the entire family of God praising and worshiping for eternity. That will be one awesome experience! I am reminded of a song my grandmother sang a lot, and I remember singing it at times in church as well, Because He Lives. "Because He lives, I can face tomorrow. Because He lives, all fear is gone. Because I know He holds the future and life is worth the living just because He lives."
No matter what I go through, as a Christian, I can still have joy because Christ is alive! God is on the throne! One day all these troubles will be gone. This world is only my temporary home!
I need to share this news with others. After Jesus appeared to His disciples, He commissioned them to "Go into all the world and preach this good news to all creation." That command is for me, too. This is awesome news that is too good to hold onto for myself. I have a hope that nothing and no one can destroy! If there's one thing many in our world are lacking, it is hope. Jesus is that hope so many are looking for.
